S8 During the Fall

S8 During the Fall

When Man ate of the fruit (and please let’s not call it an apple) of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, this is what happened.

1) Sin entered Man and the World. Because the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil is Satan’s life (called Sin), Sin entered Man and everything over which he had dominion, meaning the whole world. Where everything was once in a state of everlasting ‘freshness’, when sin entered Man and the world, everything began to grow old and decay.

Why would God put Satan’s Life in the garden? Because He had to give Man a choice.

2) Man lost the potential to live forever, be God-Man, to be sons of God, to be God’s family. At this point, Man had not completed eating of the Tree of Life, so was not an eternal being YET. His becoming a being to match God  was interrupted.

3) Man learned to be Evil. Not only this, he learned to be Good — the good that is independent of God and has nothing to do with God.

The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil is everything that Satan knows and is.

This tree gives us knowledge of how to be good, knowledgeable, useful, do complicated works that are amazing to the eye and mind. This type of good is seen much in the world today. This type of good, this human and satanic good, is a corrupt form of good which is turned against God.

In Ezekiel 28, the Lord speaks to Satan embodied in the King of Tyre (possiby Ithibaal III, circa 500 BC, a most cruel ruler in history). From these verses, we can see how Satan had much beauty and wisdom in him, which he used to turn against God.

V 3  Indeed you are wiser than Daniel; there is no secret hidden from you;
v4  By your wisdom and by your understanding you have made your wealth and accumulated gold and silver in your treasuries
v12 O you who who sealed up perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty
v 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God. Every precious stone was your covering, … the workmanship of your tambourines and your pipes was prepared with you on the day that you were created.

On the other hand, this tree also included the knowledge of all that is evil, every way to cause unspeakable pain and fears, and to destroy everything that is beloved to God, the God that created him.

Both Adam and Eve were deceived by Satan into eating of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The Lord had instructed them NOT to eat of that tree for “you shall surely die.”

But Satan craftily tempted Eve:

(Genesis 3:1,4-5) Did God really say, You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?…..You shall not surely die! For God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and you will become like God, knowing good and evil.’

v6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was a delight to the eyes and that the tree was to be desired to make oneself wise,

Who could resist such temptation? So both Adam and Eve both partook, thinking it would give them more wisdom, and that such wisdom would turn them more into God.

So was Satan telling the truth or a lie? Both.  You know the best lies are the ones couched in SOME truth. Sure, their eyes were going to be open to both good and evil. But He did not tell them that he was the source of this good and evil. Sure, they would be like God, knowing good and evil, but He did not say only God can know both good and evil and not be destroyed by it. He did not say that even though God knew evil, God IS NOT EVIL.

The only true lie in his temptation was ‘You shall not surely die!’ And our first parents fell for it. (And I would like to add, so we would have also, if we were in their place.)

What a horrible incident that was. But it has been turned into the subject of jokes and irreverent pictorials, betraying a sad lack of comprehension of the tremendous consequences surrounding this event, the Fall of the human race.
